Start with what you love

The best swimsuit is the one you forget you are wearing. Think about how you spend a beach day, swimming laps, lying in the sun or chasing children along the shore, before you think about trends.

Look at the details

A lined front, strong seams and straps you can adjust make more difference than any print. Fabric with a little weight holds its shape, wet or dry.

• Rinse your swimsuit in fresh water after every swim.
• Dry it flat in the shade, never wrung out.
• Keep one cover-up in the bag for lunch.

Mix and match

Bikini tops and bottoms in plain colours go with almost every print, and a kimono turns a swimsuit into an outfit.
